I had a bad feeling this was coming
Once I saw this story on Black homicide I knew with absolute certainty that people would be e-mailing TNC by the dozens to get his take. This is an urge that I resisted, thinking that I wasn’t going to go running to the first Black guy I could saying “What’s wrong with you people, anyway?” Not that everyone who sent the link did that, but you know that some did.
Sure enough, about 40 people pinged him with the piece. And as can also be expected, the folks at freakonomics take some issue with the statistics.
My general feeling is to ignore completely any news reporting on crime, both for individual instances and especially for “rising crime” stories. They serve no purpose other to fan fear and usually seem to be founded on bad math.
